Intelligence Services Commissioner

(12 Jan 2014) On 19th December 2012 the Prime Minister announced that he has approved the reappointment of the Rt Hon Sir Mark Waller as Intelligence Services Commissioner for a further term of 3 years from 1 January 2014.  Sir Mark was originally appointed on 1 January 2011 to replace Sir Peter Gibson, who stepped down at his own request on 31 December 2010.

Sir Mark Waller was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1964 (Bencher 1988; Treasurer 2009), practicing as a Commercial Barrister from 1 Hare Court. He took silk in 1979.

He was appointed Judge of the Queen's Bench Division in 1989, serving as Presiding Judge of the North Eastern Circuit between 1992-95. Subsequently he was appointed Judge in charge of the Commercial List between 1995-6. Sir Mark was a Lord Justice of Appeal between 1996-2010, Chairman of the Judicial Studies Board 1999-2003 and President of the Council of the Inns of Court 2003-6.

Sir Mark has been Vice-President of the Court of Appeal Civil Division 2006-2010 and is currently an Arbitrator and Mediator at Serle Court, London.
