From the Commissioner

On 1 January 2011 the Prime Minister appointed me to the post of Intelligence Services Commissioner, under Section 59 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA). After my initial appointment, I accepted the Prime Minister’s request to serve as Intelligence Services Commissioner for an additional three years from 1 January 2014. As Commissioner I provide independent external oversight of the use of their intrusive powers by the UK intelligence services and parts of the MOD. I undertake this duty rigorously and entirely independently of government, Parliament and the intelligence agencies themselves.
